Solang Valley
The open meadow 13 km up the valley where Manali does its paragliding, ropeway and snow.
Overview
About Solang Valley.
Solang Valley sits about 13 km from Manali on the road towards the Atal Tunnel, a wide green bowl below the Solang Nala glaciers. In summer it is a meadow of paragliding launches and ATV tracks; from late December it fills with snow and becomes the valley's main snow point.
The Solang ropeway carries you up the slope for the wider view towards Hanuman Tibba, and is the easiest way for families and elders to get high without a walk.
Why you should do it
- The most reliable place near Manali to actually see and play in snow
- Tandem paragliding with a short, road-accessible landing meadow
- Ropeway access for anyone who cannot walk uphill
- Only a 30–45 minute drive from town
How to reach
A 30–45 minute drive from Manali Mall Road by private cab. In heavy snow the road is sometimes closed at Palchan, and vehicles shuttle from there.
